New York Win Big in Virginia

New York Knights 52 – 04 NOVA Eagles

The weekend saw some unbelievably atrocious weather on the East Coast of the USA. In some appalling rain the New York Knights travelled to Northern Virginia to take on the NOVA Eagles. It was a game that potentially promised to be competitive since it was a top of the table clash. However the Knights showed that they really are a step up above the rest of the competition with a resounding victory over the Eagles. Despite the rain, I was had my girlfriend experience her first live game of League as well as two of her close friends. Despite the score line they came away thoroughly impressed and new converts to the Greatest game of All.

The match started at a fast pace. Both teams were throwing everything at each other in the opening minutes. Some big tackles from both teams forced errors and the rain was not helping either. In reality the game was a lot tougher than what the score reflects. The Knights opened the scoring in the 10th minute through centre Abe Cohen. Then over the next 15 minutes successive tries to James Carter, Andrew Moody, Jason Elliot and Ben Sandgate took the score to a 24 – 0 lead. The score did not really reflect the gladiatorial battle that was happening and really the difference was that the Knight capitalised on mistakes a better.

Brendan Bellanton opened the scoring in the second half. However the Eagles finally got over the line through Ed Fua but that was the only time they would breach the Knight defences. More tries from Ben Sandgate and Jason Elliott took the score to 40 – 0. That was the 65th minute mark and the Eagles defence hardened up. Both teams in the wet were starting to feel it and it looked like that’s where things would remain, However in the last 5 minutes the Knights were able to break through the Eagles nest two more times Through Moody and Bellanton and took the score out to 52-4.
