Duhaney Park Red Sharks won the JRLA League Leaders Trophy today with a 36-28 result over a fighting Jamaica Defense Force team at Up Park Camp last Saturday. The soldiers held 20-6 half time lead, but failed to hold on, as a furious second half rally saw the Reds rush to an exciting 36-28. After completing their 7 regular season games the Reds are on 19 points, three more than second place Vauxhall Rugby Club.
GC Foster secured third place finish with 15 points in the League with a 38-12 victory over Spanish Town Vikings. Antonio Baker (2), Adrian Myers (2), Ryan Spence and Steven Wynter all scored tries for the victors and Grant kicked 7 conversions. For Spanish Town, Kevon Vassell and Lemar Ellis each scored a try with Ellis kicking the conversions. The result left the JDF Warriors and Maxfield Rookies Star Steppers tied on 12 points each; however, Maxfield goes into the playoffs in 4th position as they beat the Army men in their regular season encounter, thus topping the tie-breaker.
New team St. Andrew Renegades celebrated their first win by outpointing Portmore Sons 42-14. The new club has shown much promise with good displays despite being inexperienced and undermanned, they handed Portmore the wooden spoon with a clinical display. Both teams have completed their regular season campaign and will now look to next year. Renegades end on 3 points and Portmore never got off the mark losing all 7 games.
The semi-finals will be on Saturday September 1st when Vauxhall face GC Foster Lions at 1pm at Up Park Camp in game 1, meanwhile Duhaney Park Red Sharks face the speedy Maxfield Rookies Star Steppers at 2:40 at the same venue.
