Scotland take the Grand Slam

So finally there has been less controversy in Rugby League so I can do a general wrap up of the worlds news. So this week Scotland won the Home nations while the AMNRL play-offs started and in New Zealand the grand finals were played out while Jamaica and Canada and the USA will be playing international.

Home Nations

This weekend Scotland, Wales, England and Ireland completed the Grand Slam in the Amateur Home Nations. Scotland have taken out this years tournament by taking out the Grand Slam, beating the other three nations in the British Isles. In this last round Scotland Bravehearts beat the Wales Dragonhearts 35-22 while the Ireland Wolfhounds lost to the England Lionhearts 14 – 44. The final table standings are:

New Zealand

In Auckland, Howick lost to Te Atutu 8-28 and Mt Albert defeated Otahuhu 26-18. Mt Albert get to go through to the grand final automatically while Otahuhu and Te Atutu will play out in a Preliminary final for the final spot. In Canterbury Hornby beat Papnui in the Grand Final 22-6  while in Wellington, Porirua beat Wainuiomata 18-10 in the Grand final there.

Japan

In Japan, the Tokyo Warriors XIII have managed to salvage their season against the ANZAC’s winning the 6th game to square up the season up with a 46 – 28 win.

The next and final round will be played on the 28th of August where the champions will be decided.

National Rugby League

In Australia the national rugby league is getting to the business end of the season. There are three rounds left and its looking like the Dragons will take out the Minor Premiership. Results in round 23 were: Brisbane 14-30 Parramatta, Cronulla 18-12 Sydney City, Canterbury 14-28 Canberra, New Zealand 22-10 Newcastle, Gold Coast 37-18 North Queensland, Wests 43-18 Penrith, Melbourne 18-16 South Sydney, St George/Illawarra 32-10 Manly.

Super League

Round 25 was played in the Super League, with some upsets still popping up. Hull Fc 18-16 Crusaders, Castleford 6-18 Leeds, St Helens 60-12 Bradford, Wigan 16-18 Huddersfield, Catalans 12-16 Harlequins, Salford 18-44 Hull KR, Wakefield 18-36 Warrington. The Giants upset over the Warriors bring Warrington a bit closer to them to potentially grab the League Leaders Shield.

Jamaica

In Jamaican the Kingston Championships played their 5th round with Olympic losing 10-38 to Vauxhall and Dunhaney Park demolishing GC Foster 60-1. The table stands so far as:

Jamaica this week travel to the UK on a two week tour and will play a test against the GB community Lions on the 22nd of August in Leeds and then will play the Carnegie Floodlit 9’s.

AMNRL

In the United States, the play-off started. Jacksonville had a bye since Connecticut had to pull out. New Haven defeated Fairfax 80-26 while Aston beat Philadelphia 46-30 and New York beat Washington D.C. 28-22 . The Semi-finals next week will be New Haven v New York and Jacksonville v Aston.

In other North American News, the Canadians and USA will play a test in Ontario on the 19th of September in the inaugural Colonial Cup.
