Awesome game Druzik. You were right…the 500 odd crowd made a HELL of alot of noise. Can’t wait for the two other games. Thanks for the highlights 🙂

Yes they did. The amazing thing is that Jacksonville has a real bonafied Rugby league following, not just friends and family of players, but a strong core following. And everywhere I went people knew about the Axemen.

The second match was a similar but quieter crowd, but the third game is an absolute screamer. It was fantastic. Felt like I was at the NRL.

I could of told you that daniel. There’s a special feel about jacksonville that’s unique.Something big is going to happen there in rugby league and what you saw at the last tournament is only the start.Watch this space because the big cleanout here in nz is about to start.Out with the old and hopeless and inept and in with the new.

  3. C.T.SANDERS says:

I paid for two people to go there in january 2009 to see the the souths v leeds game but it was never played.
Instead leeds played salford 4 days before they arrived in jacksonville. After 5 days in kacksonville, they flew to kingston jamacia where they spent a week roaming around kingston and they loved every minute of it.
I have spent some time on the west coast of america in the early 80’s in lA

    • druzik says:

Souths and Leeds was 2008. 2009 was always going top be Salford and Leeds, it was announced shortly after the souths game that thats what it was going to be.

So your guys never saw the game? Did they at least meet spinner and everyone there? Otherwise would have been a pointless venture?

Did they meet up with Romeo and Roy in Jamaica to talk about the JRL?

  4. C.T.SANDERS says:

No they didn’t because i didn’t have a computer at the time and didn’t have their contact details{i just came back from russia, the ukraine, germany and asia and wasn’t in the mood] but they brought a computer back for me as a presnt. They just loved jamacia where they could do no wrong. It was safe as houses. It just blew them away daniel.
They saw the big nfl ground in jacksonville, the home ground of the jacksonville jaguars and they thought it would make an ideal stadium to stage a big rl promotion in the not-too-distant future and didn’t they play a rl game there in 2001?They were of the firm belief that rl will be bigtime in americia one day and they were rugby union folk who saw the value in spreading the game of rl in new horizons.

  5. C.T.SANDERS says:

It may of been a pointless exercise to a lot of people daniel but it was my fault that i didn’t have the proper details. The fact that they went into new horizons that people weren’t familiar with was paramount in my book.
Here, with a lot ot of rl folk trying to deathwish the trip, this was unbelievable but true because i have made a lot of enemies in the game over the years and everything i do in reguards to rl they want to see me fail because everything they do in rl always turns to shit ie the vulcans. The fact that they came back in one piece was the main priority and a lot of people seem to be scared of going to jamacia but both frank sweet who is 85 my couzie bro and my other mate brian flavel[my age] destroyed the myth for once and for all about jamacia being unsafe which was not true at all but only a myth.
In their eyes jamacia was the ideal destination for a rl tour or tournament via jacksonville and on roll on cuba and mexico.
Finally daniel i have been to russia 5 times spreading the gospel of rugby league. Was that a waste of time?

Well, they might have been OK, but I do know from many others, including the locals that it can be dangerous. Particularly Kingston where you have a Warlord in control there and they had the city in lock-down this year for 2 months because of running battles, which I am told are common occurences there.

This comes from correspondence in Jamaica from locals who have dealt with it. Also I know two others who have been there and have said that Kingston is quite dangerous.

I will experience it in a few months I hope, see what it’s like.

  6. We love League Rugby in Jacksonville and we thank all of you for coming here.

  7. C.T.SANDERS says:

Rugby league will be big in america one day kevin and the tomahawks will get a big scalp in next 5 years kevin and that’s why both the auckland rl and nzrl are too scared to send sides there.

    • druzik says:

I would say, for the USA, Jamaica was a pretty big scalp already. That was a team that was half full with professionals.

The Ireland game will be interesting in March. Thats will be a big scalp if the Yanks can win it.

I don’t think its fear Chris, its just laziness and having an alterior motive.

  8. C.T.SANDERS says:

It won’t happen in 5 minutes daniel but 30 years ago there was no rl in america, canada and jamacia. We have made progress on a smell of an oily rag.

  9. C.T.SANDERS says:

The auckland rugby league are scared shitless i give you the tip daniel and they got a shit attitude to anybody new taking up the game.In their eyes they see these new people as having no god given right to play the game at all and the warriors supporters are some of these people making the most noise. What have the warriors ever won?F/ALL,Not even an egg cup and the sooner they go broke the better.

    • druzik says:

Just because the Warriors have won nothing does not mean they have to fold. There are many clubs that dont win for a long time and yet I would not say to get rid of them.

The warriors have their place for the moment, down the track I dont know… but as you say the NZRL has to do more to get the lower grade teams and players out and playing.

  10. C.T.SANDERS says:

The warriors will fold in 12 months i give you the tip daniel. The owners may be in a spot of bother.

  11. C.T.SANDERS says:

Well if the original warriors had the right people there for the right reasons right from the begining in 1994 it could of been a cashcow for the game today.

  12. C.T.SANDERS says:

The warriors are a joke and the nrl license should go back to north sydney oval.
Have a look at the 2 characters that own the joint and read about their failed finance company in today’s new zealand herald daniel.Go to http://www.nzherald.co.nz
A great look for the game. The warriors are a bore.

  13. C.T.SANDERS says:

And you talk about dangerous places daniel.Go to the central bus station in down town jacksonville and give us a report daniel on what you see when next there.
