Czech Republic vs. Germany - European Shield, Game 2
GERMANY GAIN A HARD FOUGHT WIN IN PRAGUE
By Daniel Andruczyk, 5 August 2007
The second leg of the European tri nations tournament came to Prague on Saturday 4th of august. The Czech republic were hoping that the home ground advantage would prove to be a valuable asset, and it did so in the first minute of the game with the Czech's going ahead 6-0. However the Germans fought on and soon after went over for their first try. The first half was pretty much tit-for-tat and only two points separated the two teams at half time, with the Germans holding a slender lead 18-16.
In the second half the experience the Germans had with their Serbian encounter showed through and they started wear down the opposition to post valuable points. However the Czech's were dogged in their defence and it was no easy run for the Germans. The German team had to withstand a possible late surge with some tries to the czech's and a l;ate send-off of Markus Keinhorst. But eventually the siren sounded and the Germans stood victorious 44-22 in a match that was much closer than the score shows.
A great crowd showed up for the encounter, with a knowledgeable group of Australian Rugby fans comming to see the game. They were thrilled to see internationals Rugby League being played and had a ball seeing the two teams.
